Los Angeles harbor commissioners took a firm stance Wednesday on a terminal delay tied to bonding company guarantees. Officials warned of potential legal action as they pressed for timely completion and funding assurances to move the project forward.
In Bonn West Germany the Bundestag elected Dr Maria Probst 63 as a vice president, the first woman to hold that role. She belongs to the Christian Social Union Bavaria wing of the Christian Democratic Party. The parliament has three other deputy speakers.
Governor Brown named William L. Wheaton of Berkeley to the Intergovernmental Council on Urban Growth and reappointed three others. Extended terms go to William C. Meux of Fresno, V Richard Graves of Los Angeles, and James Fitzgerald of San Bruno. The Catalina Island terminal project faces delays as Lew Stillwell Corp. may default on completion bonds, with the city withholding payments to subcontractors and engineers estimating 85 percent completion. City crews could finish within 30 days if needed.
