Postwar aid plans focus on Asian refugees for Nixon
The Nixon administration places highest priority on postwar aid for the resettlement and rehabilitation of refugees displaced by fighting in South Vietnam Laos and Cambodia. Officials estimate up to two million refugees may exist in Indochina, with about 710000 in South Vietnam on relief rolls and 250000 in Laos. The plan centers on a $7.5 billion five year aid package with $2.5 billion earmarked for North Vietnam, and seeks donor nations and Congress approval while debating how much comes from private entities.
