Divers locate 1778 frigates in Nar ransett Bay
Oceanographers at the University of Rhode Island recover artifacts from two sunken Revolutionary War ships HMS Cerebus and HMS Lark in Nar ragansett Bay east passage. A $60,000 total funding need follows a $17,000 federal grant as researchers salvage cannon balls and ship fittings while seeking state support and noting ships not yet identified. The wrecks, sunk in the 1778 Battle of Rhode Island, are in the National Register of Historic Places.
