Judge calls trouble light a death trap warned to the public
UPI reports District Judge George L. Hart Jr. labeled a household trouble light a death trap and ordered action to warn consumers. The Consumer Product Safety Commission seeks a court order forcing manufacturers and distributors to buy TV time and newspaper ads about the shock hazard affecting about 186,000 units. One Florida electrocution is linked to the defect. Hart plans to make the halt on sales permanent and weighs the warning method. The commission aims for three nights of network ads and two-column newspaper spots reaching 85 percent of the public.
