Calif bill to curb redlining redrafted and defeated
In Sacramento a bid to curb housing loan discrimination failed for the second year. Sen Nate Holden D Culver City faced opposition within anti redlining factions as the Assembly Ways and Means Committee rejected SB 7 by 7 to 6. Holden stated he and Gov Brown would try again later, possibly January. The measure would bar loan denials based solely on neighborhood, with fines up to 1000 dollars and loan orders. Opponents argued it overreached, while others argued it didn’t go far enough.
