County assists Viets' program
Supervisors appoint James Hayes to head a countywide volunteer program to speed resettlement of more than 16 000 Vietnamese refugees at Camp Pendleton. Hayes sponsored a family of six and secured a home in Bellflower for them while noting federal funds and local sponsorship efforts are needed by October 15 to support long term settlement. He criticized federal handling and urged broader community involvement including business labor unions and churches.
