Assembly to Uphold Brown School Aid Cut in Vote Preview
Sacramento reports the Democratic Assembly plans to uphold Gov Brown's 27 million cut to a school finance bill despite a Senate override. Speaker Leo McCarthy, Oakland's John Miller, and others analyze party positions, with Republicans urging an override as Miller cites 24 of 34 Democrats opposed or undecided. The override would require 54 votes. Brown, Miller, and McCarthy clash over strategy and trust.

Paddling consent bill sent to Senate floor in California
In Sacramento the measure by Assemblywoman Leona Egeland would require schools that permit corporal punishment to obtain written parental approval before paddling a child. If a parent does not respond, the child would be barred from corporal punishment. The Senate Education Committee cleared the bill 7 to 0 and sent it to the floor. In Northridge, police reported burglars burglarized a home and took guns and 28 bars of gold worth about $14,000 to $650 in value.
