Abplanalp’s Grand Cay retreat fuels Nixon circle intrigue
The Bahamas private island Grand Cay hosts President Nixon’s ally Robert H. Abplanalp, a Bronx-born inventor and financier. He says he financed most security and improvements at the site at about $1 million, while the U.S. government supplied some communications gear to be dismantled after 1976. The piece notes Abplanalp’s role as Nixon confidant, landowner near San Clemente, and Aerosol valve pioneer with substantial wealth.
