Inmates Injured in Norco Prison Disturbance
Riverside dispatch reports six black inmates and two Chicanos were injured as violence broke out at the State Rehabilitation Center at Norco. About 50 inmates refused to return to dormitories after lunch, clubs and fists were used, and guards fired six warning shots to quell the disturbance, with control regained after about 80 minutes.

Convicts shot hostages in prison siege verdict
Texas Ranger Capt. Burks described the bloody climax of a prison escape in which drug smuggler Fred Gomez Carrasco Rudolf Dominguez and two handcuffed women hostages died. Hostage prayed for courage during 11 days siege
Huntsville Texas UPI Ann Fleming survivor of an 11 day hostage ordeal at the Texas State Penitentiary said she asked only for courage to die bravely. She and seven others formed a human shield around Fred Gomey Carrasco as he allowed them to move and speak while he remained in control. Fleming described Carrasco as vain yet sensitive, confident yet needing reassurance, noting he was often willing to grant requests but occasionally angry.
