Sacramento AP reports a heated dispute over who pays insurance benefits for job related illnesses and injuries that develop over long periods has reached Governor Brown. The Senate gave final legislative approval to a bill critics say would result in reduced coverage and shifted costs to workers.
Los Angeles County taxpayers file more than 1000 appeals this summer as 170000 residential parcels are reassessed, doubling workload for three boards and prompting a Board of Supervisors expansion. A separate bill, AB155, seeks to cut the time period for cumulative trauma benefits to one year, shifting costs toward the most recent employer and insurer.
The widow of Francis Gary Powers won approval from President Carter to bury him at Arlington National Cemetery Virginia. Powers died in a 1980 KNBC helicopter crash near North Hollywood and will be flown to Arlington on Friday following a funeral at First Christian Church in North Hollywood.
In Sacramento Senate leaders proposed a five year school finance compromise raising costs from 3.4 to 4.2 billion with funds mainly to equalize aid and tax-rate differences among districts. Assembly chair Leroy Greene rejected the package saying no restructuring, no bill. Greene’s alternative would cost 4.9 billion over five years and seeks a smaller plan to avoid tax increases.
