Supreme Court approves Hawaii Senate reapportionment plan
The Supreme Court directed Hawaii to use a temporary 25 member Senate from eight districts based on registered voters rather than population. Justice Brennan said the method is not a universal rule, and the lower court’s stance was not a perfect basis. Eight justices were in the majority. Fortas did not participate. The three judge court in Honolulu was instructed to keep the matter on its bucket for all purposes.
