Policing Fee Plan Prods City Pact On Costs In County
The Contract Cities Association in Rosemead heard a subcommittee propose temporary caps on sheriff contract costs tied to a recent county deputies pay raise. Cities should negotiate service levels and pay only for needed work, excluding free county-wide services such as laboratory work. The plan suggests limiting new contracts to the 12 percent wage rise and warns only a few of 33 cities may accept an increased per car unit cost of 77 000 dollars, raising annual sheriff car costs to about 230 000 dollars. The association backed an amendment to Senate Bill that would let the state allocate gas tax funds via the State Highway Commission, with a 60-40 split favoring the south. James Jenkins of La Mirada was elected president, with other officers named.
