Grape Accord Plan Revised by Company
Di Giorgio Corp plans to submit to the National Farm Workers Association a draft proposal for a representation election to end the Delano grape pickers strike. The plan follows a secret negotiating session halted by a Delano picket line clash between NFWA members and Di Giorgio personnel. Cesar Chavez urged clergy and lawmakers to help protect pickets, saying talks cannot resume while guards beatings continue. Union and company officials in San Francisco expressed hope negotiations would restart, with Di Giorgio aiming to present a modified proposal and contact NEWA to set a new meeting. The fight at Sierra Vista ranch involved about 20 pickets and guards, with a picket injuring a head wound. no arrests were made.
