City Rejects Subdivision on West Side
The City Council denied a 207 residence subdivision proposed by Dominguez Estate Co and Watson Land Co to rezone 48 acres along Arlington Street and west of the Union Pacific Railroad for residential use. Only dissenting vote came from D Pat Ahern who urged industrial development. George Maxwell of the Chamber urged retaining the land for industry, citing accessibility needs. Fire Chief Frank Sandeman and Police Chief William Dovey warned that fire and police service would be hampered by lack of direct south access roads. Don Wilson Rolling Hills spoke for the rezoning, outlining a planned $2,800,000 subdivision.
