Brown aides push smog rule amid impending vote
In Sacramento the Brown administration backed tougher antismog rules for certain used cars in the Los Angeles area. The Air Resources Board issued a three page staff report claiming the NOx program is the most cost effective auto control, saying $35 NOx devices on 1966 70 cars in the South Coast could cut smog and alerts by five percent. The Assembly plans final SB41 vote Thursday to repeal the rule, with Sen. Omer L. Rains as author. The release signals ARB efforts to defeat the bill. the report was not attached.

Lawyer acquitted of soliciting witness murder in drug case
Robert L. Fitzpatrick, 36, once convicted of conspiracy to sell marijuana and furnishing cocaine, was acquitted Tuesday of soliciting the murder of a key prosecution witness. He remains to be sentenced April 23 on the drug conspiracy and cocaine charges. The trial included an arrest for offering $5,000 to kill informant Charles J.
