St Cornelius Parish Breaks Ground For New Long Beach Sanctuary
Ground has been broken on a 50 seat sanctuary on Wardrow Road near Bellflower Boulevard for St. Cornelius Parish. Founded in 1951, the Lakewood area church serves over 1,110 families with a 16 classroom school. Pastor Rev. Edmund J. Bradley notes a stable, highly religious community with many teens attending Catholic high schools. The new church features a 111 by 75 foot nave, a liturgical sanctuary facing the people, a baptistry opening into the nave, four mothers rooms, a choir balcony, and a 70 foot tall bell tower. Chaix Johnson designed the mosaic panels with Julian Construction as builder.
