Parachute jumper Alva Sweet dies at 79 in Michigan
Alva Ted Sweet of Fenamo Michigan died at an Ann Arbor hospital Thursday at age 79. He made 1858 parachute jumps, continued after losing his leg in a hunting accident, and his last jump was ten years earlier when he was 69. His first jump from a balloon was at 18 for a fair crowd in Grand Ledge.
