Indicted Hot Springs Officials Over Election Irregularities

Hot Springs, Oct 21. Grand Jury indicts County Judge O H Sumpter and Former City Attorney C Floyd Huff along with Election Commissioners T J Craighead and James E Cowles for allegedly aiding and abetting unlawful acts in the last election. Indictment cites removal of four township returns and missing names from ballots. Sumpter is removed from office by Circuit Judge Evans. term would have ended Oct 31.

Jailer beaten by prisoner in Howard County jail ambush

Hodge Bell the only prisoner confined in the Howard county Jail assaulted Jailer L Howell Saturday night striking him unconscious with a piece of timber after requesting a lamp. Howell was attacked as he entered the cell at about 6:45 PM to bring supper, leaving the jailer injured and Bell missing. The incident prompts local questions about security at the Nashville facility.

Latimer Steele Wedding in Gurdon

Miss Jeannet te Steele daughter of Rev K W Steele pastor of the M E church in Gurdon married S M Latimer a young businessman from Geary Oklahoma last night. The couple rode to the depot in a cart led by friends and the Gordon brass band and were showered with rice.

Murder in Hempstead County prompts special grand jury

Judge J M Carter orders a special grand jury to probe the murder of Miller Brown in Hempstead County Washington. Principal suspect Joe Thompson is jailed along with Vanilla Sims and Lucy Sims accessories. Thompson’s alleged brutal crime follows earlier wounds on Brown and the hanging of Tom Sims in 1902.
