Friends mourn the death of Briant Stokes who died at his home in Caney township after a long rheumatism struggle. He was 69 and a long-time county resident. Funeral services will be held tomorrow morning at Mt Moriah with burial to follow.
The Hot Springs community, led by friends and supporters of Geo W Donaghey, prepares a public celebration tomorrow. Local factions in Garland county include the CLAs backing Hineman, the Jeff Davis group backing Kirby, and Donaghey’s opponents. The Prescott visit by Maharra’s Minstrels is noted with praised performances and plans for a reception at the Park Hotel in Arkansas.

Andrews leads Norwood for attorney general, Ludwig over Clary for secretary of state, Jobe ahead of Wathout for state auditor, with country districts still unsettled. Final totals may widen Donaghey's plurality to as much as 15 000.
Thirty five thousand members of the United Mine Workers in districts 14 21 and 25 covering Missouri Kansas Oklahoma and Texas are expected to strike on April 7. The Southwestern Interstate Coal Operators Association refused to set a date for new contract talks as the current agreement expires March 8. Operators say miners in Texas Oklahoma and Arkansas had struck without arbitration while Missouri and Kansas districts report no trouble.
The counting board includes O. H. Gordon, G. R. Haynie, W. V. Tompkins, T. R. Wright and Brad, named by officials to oversee the upcoming tally. The group will coordinate procedures and ensure accurate vote counts.
