Patterson Wins in Democratic Primaries Over Carmack
Memphis June 30 Returns from Saturdays Democratic primary indicate Governor Patterson will be renominated over former United States Senator Carmack. Reliable figures show Patterson with 734 delegate votes and Carmack with 584. Carmack supporters may challenge results in two interior counties alleging fraud. Patterson's popular majority runs about 9 000 votes. The race used the county unit plan with Carmack backing statewide prohibition and Patterson favoring local option. Patterson said he would sign a statewide prohibition bill if the platform calls for it and the legislature passes it.
