Prescott saw one of its quietest Sundays as Mayor’s Saturday proclamation closed stores including news stands livery stables and bread shops. Electric light and telephone decisions linger while newsman Mr Bryan redirects papers to St Louis and subscribers.
Prescott Arkansas bank advertises capital stock authorized one hundred thousand dollars subscribed fifty thousand dollars. It invites small and large accounts and promises courteous service and accommodations consistent with safe banking.
The Grand Camp United Confederate Veterans elected officers by acclamation in Richmond. General Steven D. Lee of Mississippi became Grand Commander with C Irvin Walker of South Carolina as Lieutenant General and Clement A. Stevens of Georgia as Department head. W L Cabell of Texas led the Trans Miss department. Birmingham was chosen for the 18th reunion, with San Antonio and Nashville also in contention. Senator James H. Berry of Arkansas, missing a leg at Corinth, was feted and addressed the convention on crutches.
The Eighth Annual Convention of the Hardware Men's gathering takes place in Little Rock with details on dates and program agendas. Attendees include industry members and speakers expected to address market trends and product showcases.
The Arkansas Retail Hardware Association convenes in the city for a two day session starting tomorrow at 10 am with several hundred delegates. Prominent hardware men will speak and wives join a mobile ride to Fort Logan H. Roots plus a city tour. A Morest park show and a Wednesday smoker conclude events.
Railroad leaders in Little Rock report Santa Fe has secured Midland Valley Railroad and plans a southwest trunk line to Fort Smith, then five independent lines will connect to Little Rock with one minor gap remaining. Two of the lines are said to be already purchased by Santa Fe.
Reports from June 2 show the Red River rising across multiple points with a risk of general overflow. Levees on the west side failed near Garland City flooding Pryor Paul Dixon and Henry plantations while levels reached Fulton 0 feet gauge and Garland City 50.5 feet. Governor Pindall vetoed a penitentiary funding bill and Mrs. Beaufort travels to Ouachita Baptist College commencement.
George Caldwell contractor for the state capitol was arrested in Little Rock on two counts of accessory to bribery related to the 1905 legislature. He posted bond of 10000 and was released. He disputes Lafayette county’s district status and says only Judge J M Carter of Texarkana can hold court there.
The Nevada Chancery Court with Judge J D Shaver presiding convened at 10 am. Motions dominated the session leading to a rule that pleadings be filed in duplicate and originals kept with the clerk unless the court orders otherwise. Barton McRae Sanders granted manumission. In W W Rice vs Nevada County Picayune, stockholders were liable for the paper's debt and a lien placed on the property in favor of American Type Founders Co. The court adjourns tonight to Saturday.
Circuit Judge W H Hays of the Thirteenth Judicial District said he regards the Montgomery bill veto as significant. The remarks came as cautions over legislative action and executive power in Lewisville on June 2.
