German offensive pushes toward Chateau-Thierry and Rheims
London reports a high British general staff assessment on a western front crisis. The main German offensive drives toward Chateau-Thierry and Dormans, reaches the Marne, and overruns territory to Soissons and Soissons to Noyon while Rheims area remains obscure with repeated attacks. The German thrust began May 27, expanding to 35 miles with 30 divisions, and Allied forces struggle to halt their advances amid strong French and British resistance.
