Holiday Parade Planned For Registration Day June Fifth

A committee was named to organize a registration day program on Tuesday June 5 declaring it a holiday to honor citizens. The parade forms at 10 am at West 3rd Street and Main with a band autos and decorated floats. Marshals include A M Ellsworth Dan Pittman and C Calhoun with Jessie Akers coordinating girls and a Home Guard unit. Speeches by Jas D Shaver and others follow at the Chautauqua tent. Registrars will issue buttons to registrants and local decorations urged for Prescott units.

Italians Capture Four Albanian Towns Amid Front Struggles

Rome May 31 Italian troops occupied Cerevoda Velisest Ssoja and Cafal in Albania. Heavy rain and fog limited artillery on the Trentino and Carnia fronts while Austrians attacked San Giovanni. Gabriele d Annunzio inspired the Italian defense in fierce clashes. Madrid reports constitutional guarantees to be suspended anew amid diplomatic negotiations and protests.

Albanian Advances and Osum River Fighting Reported

In Albania on Monday night Albanian troops attacked enemy regulars on the upper Osum River near Berat. Heavy fighting continued as villages Cerekoda Kelmest Osoja and Cafa were taken and efforts to dislodge Albanian forces were resisted.

World must be made safe for democracy appeal

The motto world must be made safe for democracy is urged in a statewide notice sent by W. S. Clifford and Gen. Lloyd England to all sheriffs. They request next Tuesday be a general holiday to promote voter registration, with registration day to be solemn and focused. Bells and whistles to sound at 7 am, parades near booths, and national colors at booths are urged while avoiding elaborate decorations.

Seventh U S Infantry En Route East Through Little Rock

June 1 report that the 7th U S Infantry passed through Little Rock on its way from El Paso to Gettysburg. The regiment spent hours in the city, marched up town drawing attention. It is believed they are headed East to be prepared for France.

Organized Plot to Resist Conscription in Columbus

A nationwide propaganda plot to deter young men from registering for conscription next Tuesday has been uncovered in Columbus with headquarters in the city. Federal and local officers raided 1111-2 South High street, arresting Harry E Townsley and two others for printing and distributing anti conscription material. Further arrests are expected in Ohio and the Midwest as the investigation continues.
