Surgery Without Knife Shocks Convention Audience

At a Philadelphia meeting of the American and Laryngological Association Dr Chevalier Jackson of Pittsburgh removed a brass paper cup embedded in a young woman's lung for eight years without a knife using a bronchoscope with tiny electric light reflector and forceps. The tube was guided down the throat and the clip freed after about an hour of work. The patient is recovering.

Andree Baumont, the French aviator, arrived in Rome as the first contestant to reach the city at the end of the second stage from Pisa. His 160 mile flight earned him 20009 dollars of the 100000 prize.

Negro Memorial Parade in Eminence Kentucky

Eminence Kentucky reports a Memorial Day parade likely unique in the nation with an all Negro float line. Bob Franklin aged 70 served as marshal. a Negro band and two boys carried Confederate flags accompany veterans. Also noted was M Schnell, longtime telegraphist, who died aged 77 in Des Moines Iowa. He worked with Carnegie and Edison and was cousin to Andrew G. Curtin.
