The newspaper outlines five districts for equal prize division within its circulation area. District 1 covers Prescott, District 2 includes Boughton Mississippi and Redland Townships, District 3 encompasses Emmet and Albany Townships, District 4 covers Caney Taylor and Leake Townships, District 5 includes Alabama and Parkereene Townships plus Jackson and Union Townships with remainder territory outside Nevada County.
The News urges expansion of circulation to 1000 new homes in Prescott praising the paper as best for towns of its size. It states profits from increases will fund prizes, calls for 20 more hustlers, and encourages readers to start immediately to boost local influence and subscriptions.
City council meeting last night with Mayor presiding appointed a sewerage study committee including W B Waller and W Gee to examine sewer system viability. May and June reports from Mayor and Marshal were filed or referred to Finance. marshal salary raised to 65 a month and Thatorium license set at 25 annually. John Sweeny received a raise from 25 to 30 monthly. Warrant reissue plans approved. fiscal year 1907 1908 reports filed and ordered published. Meeting adjourned to July 21.
A storm yesterday saw lightning strike Leonard Smiths residence in Walderly. The bolt ripped the chimney and floors apart, but the Smith family had left minutes earlier and avoided injury.
An ordinance of Prescott Arkansas sets the city marshal salary at sixty five dollars per month from May 1, 1908. The measure repeals conflicting ordinances. Dated July 7 1908, Mayor R P Arnold, Recorder D L McRae attesting.
