Ammons Is Acquitted in Rosston Murder Trial

The State versus James Ammons ended with a not guilty verdict after a murder in the second degree charge stemming from the December 1907 killing of Ernest Smith at Rosston. The trial included lengthy arguments, multiple ballots, and a late verdict. The defendant plans to move to Texas after settling affairs in Rosston. The city faces a grip epidemic with about 2,000 cases hospital beds and rising illness across families.

Primary February 18 Set by Democratic Town Central Committee

The Democratic Town Central Committee met at the City Marshal’s office and set February 18 as the primary election date to nominate candidates for the April election. Attendees included A. M. Denman as chairman J. B. Stone as secretary Ed Cantley and Vick Scott. A pledge voting rule was adopted allowing any supporter to vote in the primary. A subsequent meeting is planned for February 3 to address further matters.

Death of Jno. T. King in Little Rock

Jno. T. King, a prominent Arkansas traveling salesman for the Guss Blass Dry Goods Company, died at 62 in Little Rock after a lingering illness. Funeral services are planned for Friday morning. He was a member of the Arkansas Travelers Protective Association.

Murder at Hope Ends in Continued Manhunt

A Hope marshal was shot by Will Green, a black man, near the post office after attempting to arrest him for a prior warrant. Green fled north toward Prescott, with bloodhounds and posses deployed, and a later report says he was shot in the leg by a northern freight posse near Bienn. Authorities remain hopeful for capture before night.
