Prosperous Days Ahead for Our City

Mr. Springer of the St. Marys Woodstock Co says their mill near the Junction City plant will resume operations on January 1 or soon after. The Hickory mill makes hickory spokes and Woodstock gear. The La Crosse Cooperage Co plans a mill in Prescott area, investing about $25,000 in white yak timber. New enterprises could employ 75 to 100 men and boost local business.

One Armed Man Suspect In Nashville Robberies

Sheriff Haller investigated Daisy reports of robberies by a one armed man. He found a stranger in Nashville but could not confirm the description and released the prisoner. A white swan was captured at Mineral Springs by P C Jones's son after a dog attack. The swan measures seven feet tip to tip and four feet tall at rest. Banks and businesses will suspend Friday and Saturday for Christmas. Piling work on Mine Creek bridge extension to the Memphis Paris and Gulf railroad was completed and rails began to be laid on the first bridge area.

Lost Brown Horse With U Brand Reappears Reward

A brown horse about eight years old weighing 1000 pounds is missing. It is branded with the letter U on the left shoulder and shod on all four hooves. Ned Christopher offers a liberal reward for information leading to the horse's whereabouts.

Legislature Convenes January Fourth In Little Rock

Reports from Little Rock detail the upcoming January fourth start of the legislature with Gov. Donaghey due to be inaugurated. Aspirants for Speaker visit the capital to organize campaigns while officials prep the old chambers. Other items include railroad tariff disputes, Confederate veterans' reunion plans, Mayor Daley’s illness, and talk of a constitutional convention focusing on revenue and election laws.

Grand View Plantation Company forms from Hempstead land sale

A large sale in Hempstead county near Columbus transfers the Holman-Myers plantation to a newly incorporated Grand View Plantation Company with 5000 acres planned for alfalfa and cash crops. R C Stuart of Columbus is secretary treasurer. The firm aims to connect to Ozan via railroad, operate a company store, and raise cotton corn and livestock. A Southern refrigerator car fire in local yards caused total destruction when a hobo reportedly set or sparked the blaze. Look for the Red Tag on West Main Street.

Prescott Man Arrested In Louisiana Theft Case

A Prescott Ark man, Sherron, arrested in Monroe La on a warrant from Marshal Tex for stealing two horses and a buckboard. He tried to sell the outfit locally but was detained for inquiry. His wife and seven children remain in Prescott. He claimed he was going to marry in the country. Also note Ke N Daniels buys Dougan Shoe Shop on West Second and will run the business there. Fireworks ban in city limits will be suspended Christmas Eve and Christmas Day for shoppers.
