One hundred Mexican bandits crossed the Rio Grande forty miles southeast of Laredo and attacked the American border patrol near Bam Ignacio, killing two and wounding five. Troops of the Jéh cavalry, 140 strong under Major Alonzo Gray, repelled the assault, with six killed and several wounded on the Mexican side. The attack lasted about 30 minutes under a bright moon, starting at 2 a.m. and ending as the bandits retreated south toward Mexican soil.
