Scioto Entries Crown Champions At Charity Horse Show

The 21st Portsmouth Charity Horse Show crowned champions Sunday night at Lucasville Fairgrounds. Scioto County entries won top honors in walking horse and other stakes, with Hands Shaker Copy ridden by Ray Lute of McDermott taking the grand championship and Shadow's Motion Man earning reserve and amateur honors for Dr. Otto F. Apel of Portsmouth. Other Sunday and Saturday night winners included Balaton Stake top finisher Vicki Mobell, English Pleasure Glen Grove's Cinder, Fine Harness Oak Leaf Denmark, and Hustlin Harriet in the Rode Pony Stake, among others.

County Drops from EDA Aid List Over Unemployment Decline

Scioto County was removed from the Economic Development Administration list of counties eligible for special aid as unemployment fell below 6 percent. Surtax Extension Seen By Backers In House

In Washington Republicans and some Democrats back President Nixon's surtax extension as a crucial anti inflation move. Kiln Blast Kills Jackson Area Worker

Raymond E. Rainer, 49, of Jackson Rt. 4, died after a kiln blast at A. P. Green Refractories Co as he lit a match and an gas buildup exploded. Surviving include wife Goldie and several relatives. Funeral set for Wednesday at Mayehew Plummer Funeral Home.
