U S General Services Administration approves a $12,000 grant to hire an aviation engineer to study whether Portsmouth needs an airport and where it should be located. Another nurse will stay through next week. Four nurses back from state board exams are also on duty, restoring coverage. DEFICIT ESTIMATED Washington June 36 AP The government finished fiscal 1850 with near complete figures showing a deficit below 3 500 000.

Simpson states the Thermakers Club will run two main contests with junior and open classes. Washington June 30 AP The House appeared ready to approve President Truman's plan to transfer the Reconstruction Finance Corp to the Commerce Department, making RFC an independent agency. Opposition remains from some members who favor Treasury control. A rejection resolution failed in the House expenditures committee, and the transfer would take effect 90 days after midterm unless blocked. The RFC move could reach Senate consideration next week with July 31 as the tentative effective date.
The Senate voted 66 to 0 to approve a 1.2225 billion foreign arms aid program for Western Europe and Asia. The measure includes 16 million for South Korea and the Philippines, with most funds earmarked for Western Europe. The bill advances to the House as international tension rises.
North Korean armored column moved within 15 miles of the Hen River in South Korea threatening the Suwon base as President Truman authorized deployment of U S ground forces. Gen MacArthur’s HQ confirmed the invasion and response plan.
