Ten Dead and Six Missing in Eureka Plane Crash

A chartered DO3 airliner carrying 23 Californians, mainly real estate salesmen, crashed during takeoff near Eureka. Seven survived as rescue efforts fought high winds and four-foot seas. ten bodies recovered with six missing. The craft clipped a sewage plant roof then plunged into the ocean about 50 yards offshore. Local boats aided survivors before Coast Guard and cutter Point Ledge took over.

In Columbus, Senators George McGovern and Birch Bayh wooed Ohio Democrats as the state party adopted its first constitution and added 350000 to its treasury. The $100 per plate dinner drew 3500 at the state fairgrounds, while Gov. John Gilligan hinted at a favorite son run. McGovern and Bayh attacked the Nixon administration on the war and economy, urging unity for Ohio's 153 convention votes.

Loyal Subjects Oppose Queen Raised Pay in Poll

A public opinion poll for the Daily Mail shows 54 percent want Queen Elizabeth II’s annual pay of 1,140,000 to stay the same or be cut. Eight percent have no opinion and 38 percent support the increase under consideration by an all party committee of legislators. Britain still values the monarchy with 78 percent saying they need a queen. In Greensboro North Carolina, David L. Waugh aged 37, director of the Greensboro Public Library since 1963, died on Saturday.
