In Santo Domingo on Oct 25 1985 the provisional government faced a coup threat as Joaquin Balaguer’s inauguration loomed. President Hector Garcia Godoy and officials endured warnings of deadly orders while the OAS backed a 8000 strong Inter-American Peace Force to sustain the Dominican Republic’s fragile peace amid rebel pockets downtown.
