A June 26 AP report from Washington projects total national income of at least 85 billion dollars for 1941, with 1942 income near 92 billion and industrial production 40 percent above 1929 boom levels. Favorable weather, defense spending, price supports, and lend-lease boosts are cited as key factors.

Scioto County tax collection totaled $187,104 in one day as County Treasurer L Wohler reported the best one day haul since 1939. The mid year payments from Norfolk & Western Railway, Wheeling Steel Corp and Selle Shoe Co. pushed the first half taxes toward a closing date Monday. Pillar expects total collections to exceed $900,000.
Washington June 26 Leon Henderson price administrator announced wholesale and retail tire and tube prices frozen at June 16 levels. Chrysler Corp refused to rescind recent auto model price increases and several New York furniture makers boosted prices about five percent despite requests to submit to his office. Henderson said a broader price ceiling for new automobile models would be established and noted action against noncompliant firms.
O D Welling a longtime licensed master plumber at 504 Seventh Street was elected plumbing inspector at $150 a month by a special city board of health meeting held at city hall. The appointment followed recommendations from Master Plumbers Association reps C A Rauch and Paul P Brennan. vote favored by Feyler Hutchens Robertson and De Boer with Jones opposing. Welling was reported after the meeting.
In Scioto county today an act of Congress reduced WPA funding by 41 percent and 531 workers were dismissed. WPA area engineer Matthew Boylan said total employment dropped to 2,114 from 2,645, with reductions on Portsmouth streets and water lines projects. Several workers on New Boston projects resigned to take private jobs.
Edward H Westphal seeks nomination for the unexpired council term in the Columbus city primary Aug 12. Secretary of State ruling validates charter appointment rules, potentially limiting Westphal to the expired term and leaving 12 candidates for six nominations in November. Albert E Pressler remains appointed to serve the Frizzell term until expiration.
Washington June 26 The United States likely will issue formal approval within days for American men to enlist abroad in Britain or China for combat or noncombatant technical work. A memo to state directors offering deferment to volunteers abroad is expected, though not final. President Roosevelt voiced support, while eligibility remains mainly 21 to 35, with Canada cited as a convenient route for volunteers.
A crowd estimated between 5 000 and 10 000 gathered at Lucasville fairgrounds from eight southern Ohio counties for the second annual Citizenship day. Governor John W Bricker was to speak at 4 p m in a nonpartisan program by the State Employes Good Government league. Reports cite no major Soviet breakthrough as German forces push near Vilna while the Red Army counters and reshapes the front. Italian forces parade in the Po valley as Mussolini reviews a motorized expeditionary division. A neutral London source hints at freeing 300,000 Polish prisoners in Russia, and Britain along with Russia coordinate to hasten Moscow access.
Plant proceeded today to commence the trial of Mrs Goldie Marie Pauley on a first degree murder charge in common pleas court. The defense contends she was not legally responsible due to temporary insanity at the time of the death of her husband Lee Pauley. Prosecutor Kelly summoned witnesses including Ruth Holtzman Schackert and Dr Ewing Crawfis as Mrs Pauley was under observation at the Lima state hospital. Additional witnesses from Newark Pickerington and other localities were called by the defense.
Berlin reports the loss of the auxiliary cruiser Pinguin in the Indian Ocean after a battle with the British cruiser Cornwall. The German commu nique notes Admiral Scheer completed a successful Atlantic raiding cruise, sinking 86,000 tons of ships in a total 152,000 tons, with some crew captured and others killed.
Ezra Stone, 23, the actor who portrays Henry in The Aldrich Family radio program, passed his army medical exam and was found fit for service. Officials say he may be called into the army within 30 days.
