Union stoneworkers of CIO United Stone and Allied Products Workers of America voted 89 to 57 in secret to accept a two year contract with McDermott stone companies. The accord provides a 3 cent per hour immediate wage increase and a further 3 cent raise on March 1, extending through April 30, 1956, ending the eight week strike that began May 1.
Fourteen people including three New York lawyers were indicted for conspiring to corrupt Internal Revenue Bureau officials and obstruct tax scandal probes. The eight count indictment names Samuel Schopick Irving Davis Max Halperin Milton Hoffman and co conspirators Daniel Bolich Henry Grunewald plus others from Pattullo Modes and IRS offices.

Details of a settlement were not announced. officials indicated the issue was adjusted after talks in Indianapolis and a panel cancellation. The carpenters employ 1,300 workers and cement finishers 350.
The Nationalists announced their navy seized the tanker Tuapse off Formosa and held it at Kaohsiung. They charged the vessel owned by Russia was carrying oil to a Communist port on the mainland in violation of a United Nations embargo.

Seven men were arrested on gambling charges in New Boston. C L Fraley, 303 Vine St, charged with keeping a gambling place and given a year probation with a $50 first offense fine. Others cited include Delbert Patrick, Ray Branham, Don Stiltner, J Fraley, and Willard Urban. All pleaded guilty, received suspended $10 fines, and warning to avoid gambling. The raid by Chief Fred Brown and Patrolman John Hoover found a tong game at 303 Vine St at 1 15 p m.
City engineers begin repainting street markers to restore legibility and improve curb appeal. Charles S. Stevenson says re-stenciling will be finished in about 60 days. Painters from the city service department have already completed sections including Sciotoville North Moreland East End and Hilltop areas.
