Democratic rules panel backs replacing the two thirds nominating threshold with a simple majority. The 104 year old rule faced strong southern opposition but was approved 36 to 13 to submit a majority rule proposal to the convention floor.
At the Philadelphia convention, delegates unanimously accepted credentials and permanent organization reports and then recessed. The platform process faced delays with a minority rules report and disputes over majority nominations, Townsend pension proposals, and Southern delegation tensions. Robinson was elected permanent chairman of the Democratic National Convention.
Senator Joseph T. Robinson of Arkansas urged delegates to sustain the administration’s program for three more years. He denounced the Supreme Court for slowing national recovery and called for continued enforcement of federal relief and monetary policy, arguing decisions hinder progress.
June 25 Philadelphia report notes James A. Farley urged Senator Donahey of Ohio to second Roosevelt at the national convention. Donahey said he is not accustomed to speaking before a battery of radio microphones and that the political moment is not right for him to speak for the President.
Two men wearing overall clothing robbed the Worthington bank near Columbus shortly after noon, taking about $3000 from the cashier's cage while forcing assistant cashier Norman Lehman and teller Ruth Stritmatter to surrender the money, then fleeing in a small blue coupe.
A gun battle in Lawrence Massachusetts left two robbers and a bank employee wounded, with a policeman also injured as bandits attempted to seize a $19,000 payroll. One robber was reported near death and taken to Lawrence General Hospital.

Two men indicted for conspiring to furnish U S navy information to Japan. Toshio Miyazaki named lieutenant commander in the Imperial Japanese Navy. Harry Thomas Thompson a former navy petty officer accused of posing as an officer to obtain secrets and sell them. A Japanese woman was brought into the case as federal investigators questioned her. Thompson allegedly began selling secrets on August 26.
A special senate committee in Columbus recommended removing Evan S. Evans and Charles C. Core of the Ohio Industrial Commission and criticized the Workmen’s Compensation law administration. The 49 page report faulted the rehearing department for delays up to two years and blamed the secretary and legal department heads for bottlenecks while defending Evans staff against widespread inequities in rate structures. Governor Martin L. Davey also criticized the program.
A four room cottage at Bonser avenue and Kiff street Sciotoville was destroyed by fire caused by defective wiring. One man was burned and a truck damaged as flames swept the building. Mrs. Koch and two children were visiting relatives when the fire started about 9.
The report notes today at 11 a.m. the high of 81 and low of 57. It compares with yesterday's high of 79 and a year ago high of 86 with a 57 low.
