A Portsmouth area crash spree left five people injured, including Sima Hancock 65, and Wilber Hamilton 23. Donald Boyd 26 collided with Hancock on John St at 6 25 a m. Other wrecks on Summit Gallia St Route 52 and Route 23 resulted in further injuries and several fines.
Patrolmen seek driver of a Kentucky car after a Saturday wreck on Route 74 one mile east of Seaman. The car overturned four to five times and was taken to Adams County garage. In a separate incident, a lumber truck and a Greyhound Bus carrying 33 women collide on Route 52 six miles west of the Adams Sciota line. The lumber truck, driven by Kenneth Clifford 25 of Blue Creek Rt. 1, struck the bus driven by Henry Baxter 33 of Covington Rt. 3 after brakes failed.
In Peoria a 37 year old Eugene W Mellon was arrested by Patrolman Robert Edwards at 1 49 am on the roof of 507 Second Street after cutting through a skylight at the Sportsman's Cafe. A companion in Mellons car was arrested nearby at 2 04 am by Edwards and other officers.
Probation was revoked for Chester Austin and Charles Meeker in Municipal Court this morning. Each was fined $10 and costs and sentenced to 10 days in jail on drunk charges. Austin was arrested at 11:52 a.m. Saturday on Front Street, Meeker at 12:44 a.m. today at Gallia and Gay Streets, both by city patrolmen.
Mayor Vernal Riffe bound Russell Price, 42, of 3142 Rhodes Ave, to the grand jury on a concealed weapon charge for carrying a butcher knife. Price was arrested by Patrolmen John Fort and Robert Wolfe at 9 25 p m Saturday in the 3700 block on Stanton Ave on a drunkenness charge. He was fined 85 and costs in Riffe court and bond set at 100 for the grand jury action.
Hanson was attacked at 12:20 a.m. Saturday night at the rear of his home on 11th Street and suffered a head injury and a hurt right eye. he was treated by a physician. James M. Dickson, 35, a grocer on South Third Street for 30 years, died after a long illness.
