Judge sentences Beard to death for Massie family murders
Ironton June 17 Harley Beard was sentenced to die in the electric chair on October 2 in the Ohio penitentiary for the May 15 Massie family murders in Lawrence county. Judge James S. Thomas presided, noting premeditation and Beard’s lack of remorse as the courtroom heard his admission of the crime.

A near drownings occurred Sunday at the mouth of Nace's Run below Turkey Creek during a camping outing. Marion L. Barber and his son Richard G. Barber, along with James Barber Wesley Bennett and others struggled as Bennett, wearing water wings, could not swim and cried for help. Rich Barber and Jim Barber pulled Bennett and himself from the water after a death grip left both men near lifeless. they were revived after some time.

Affidavit Filed Against Park Policeman Judd
