Virus Links Found Between One Virus and Many Cancers
Dr. Sarah E. Stewart of the National Cancer Institute reported to the Canadian Cancer Research Congress that a single virus extracted from a tumor induced up to 29 cancer types in mice. The finding supports the idea that cancer can be virus transmitted, prompting renewed U.S. and Canadian research while noting human applicability remains unproven.

Senate O K On Tax Extension Looks Certain
The Senate held Eisenhower's request for extending present corporation and excise taxes with approval likely. A key fight loomed over freeing the 3 percent freight and 10 percent passenger taxes while amendments to repeal auto taxes were thought unlikely. If not extended, wartime rates would lapse June 30, reducing Treasury revenues by about 2.6 billion dollars annually. Byrd prepared to lead a strong opposition to amendments, arguing a potential 11 billion dollar deficit next year.
