FBI investigates extortion plot targeting 200 firms
The FBI probes a scheme in which 200 corporations were extorted for millions and 13 bombs mailed to firms or executives. Twelve bombs failed to explode, but one injured four at Merrill Lynch in New York. Beatrice Foods received a letter bomb and the extortion demanded 16 million dollars to be paid over eight or nine months.
