A group of Pittsburgh businessmen led by John B. Curley bought The Portsmouth Clay Products Co. in South Webster from the McKell estate. The new firm Portsmouth Clay Products Co., Inc. will continue manufacturing fire brick, kaolin clay, and plastic products with 85 employees, and aims to stay active in local life.
Warplanes and related equipment valued near a billion dollars are declared surplus and up for sale. The surplus property board's first comprehensive report, inserted in the Congressional Record by Chairman O Mahoney, notes about 265 million dollars of war goods were sold in the 10 months ending March 31.
A stray lamb found near the public square caused drivers to stop in fear of a road risk. The animal was taken by the animal protective league and will be kept until ownership is proven. if not claimed, it will be used for hospital or charitable institution purposes.

The bill would raise two year school funding by about 132 million with added costs for salaries, university maintenance, and new mental hospitals, while critics warn of excessive state spending.
Roy Floyd 36 of Portsmouth suffered a mangled right foot and spinal injuries when struck by a Baltimore and Ohio train about a square north of the Seventh and Market streets crossing. He was found by James Flannery and Francis and Eugene Dunham at 12:45 a m, moved to Portsmouth General Hospital, and underwent amputation of the foot after an operation. Engineers C A Ward and A L Miller were on a northbound double header at the time.
