The Portsmouth chamber of commerce plans a new Blue Jay plant to create 80 to 125 jobs at a starting wage of 37 14 cents per hour and $15 weekly, with an annual payroll of 50 000 to 75 000. They seek 7200 to move and set up machinery, appealing to citizens for liberal contributions as growth hinges on funding and space.

June 11 Lord Linlithgow, viceroy of India, announced a state of war exists between India and Italy. The declaration marks a formal escalation in the global conflict.
Washington June 11 Ford said after a defense conference his company is ready to mass produce airplanes once contracts are granted. He noted the P 40 was found suitable for mass production depending on definition. Ford declined to estimate output though sources suggest up to 1,000 planes daily might be feasible. Henry Ford stressed the aircrafts would be for defense and mentioned a new airplane motor in development.
Six drivers were fined Monday when arraigned before Judge Horace L Small in municipal court. No accidents were reported to police and no drivers were arrested in the city in the last 24 hours. Jesse Zirkles, 22, of Nauvoo, charged with driving while intoxicated, was fined $100 and costs.

Funeral services are set for Gerald Jacob Imm aged newlywed and former Elk River resident drowned Sunday at 6 30 p m while bathing in the Elk river at Sterling Illinois. Services Thursday at 1 p m at Sciotoville Christian church with Rev Crayton S Brooks officiating. Burial will be in Greenlawn cemetery. The body arrives Wednesday at 2 p m and will be taken to Gill funeral home Sciotoville for viewing prior to the service.
