Housing act approved by Portsmouth city council vote

City council unanimously approved a second housing contract with the Portsmouth Metropolitan Housing Authority for a 250 unit low cost project and repealed the first contract. Police Seek Accomplice in Kidnaping for Mortgage Ransom

San Francisco reports police sought a male accomplice of Margaret Weil, an 18-year-old from Nassau New York who abducted 5-year-old Krehe Osborn and demanded 1600 dollars to pay her mother's farm mortgage. Weil, arrested with the child in a San Jose hotel, faces kidnapping for ransom with possible life imprisonment. preliminary hearing set for June 19.

Squalus salvage nears first lift after sunk subs return

Navy divers in Portsmouth New Hampshire report progress on removing obstructions blocking the Squalus salvage operation. If successful they will fasten pontoon chains next week and begin lifting the hull with 26 bodies, planned in stages from 240 feet deep to warmer shallower waters.
