Widow Jevs Sauindrs Dies in Columbus Parish

Jevs Sauindrs widow of GC Sauindrs died Sunday morning in Columbus from paralysis. Born December 1826 as Ogden, she married and moved to this county, residing years in Portsmouth. Survived by three sons Thomas and William of Columbus, and Benjamin of Chillicothe, Illinois. Remains brought home this morning for burial at Queenlawn Cemetery after services at her son William’s home.

Death of John W. Schimpf shocks Huntington adjacents

John W. Schimpf, a 38 year old soldier from a prominent Portsmouth family, died suddenly Sunday in Huntington. The Spanish American War veteran served with the Seventeenth Battery F artillery in the Philippines and earned a medal and certificate for bravery. His body was taken Monday to Johnson’s Undertaking for shipment to Portsmouth.

Funeral for John W. Schimpf With Army Honors

The burial of John W. Schimpf of the United States Army will be held at Greenlavin cemetery Thursday at 2 p.m. with honors of war. Captain Batterson will lead a firing squad from Company Ki and a corporal as escort, while Company K will sound the death call as the coffin is lowered. The body arrived from Himlington, carried by Theodore Schimpf, and local troops may attend. Schimpf had recently planned to take further Odd Fellows degrees in Portsmouth.

Indicted figures named in grand jury report

In addition to Charles B. McDonald and Glenn Sampson, three others in custody were made public: George W. Tate and Dora Roseberry for adultery and Thomas Trigg for failure to provide. The three other indictments were not disclosed.

Carpenter Jack Lewis fell about 12 feet from the front wall of the Bannon Labold block on Wednesday morning.
