Special To The Times Jackson June 33-year-old attorney Benner Jones is being sought on a warrant as mentally ill after allegedly firing at his wife and fleeing. Sheriff Stanley Lewis said Ohio enforcement agencies are alerted to track Jones who left town Friday after Deputy Charles E. Dixon tried to serve a witness subpoena. Jones’s wife testified he fired several shots last Thursday night while holding her against a tree.
Police logged a weekend of traffic incidents in the Portsmouth area including a reckless driving charge against Maurice Johnson after a Sixth Street and Gay Street collision. A two-vehicle crash on Route 239 near Route 73 involved France Bentley and Everett Hobbs. A bridge collision on Strato River injured Clyde Rice and Ralph Hennér. Westbound Gelfin Street cars and a Sixth Street rear-end crash involving Galen Childers and Robert Gemper were reported.
