The old Portsmouth Brewing Co. building at 224 Second St. may become a restaurant and arcade with specialty shops under new owners Dr. and Mrs. Louis R. Chaboudy and partners. Plans by Gerald P. Salvation Army Citadel announces a six week day camp starting July 6 at 1001 Ninth St with activities daily Tuesday to Thursday and field trips on Fridays. Space limited to 100 children ages 5 through 13, registration through June 30, fee one dollar per child, free hot lunch, and trips to Wright Patterson Museum Cincinnati Zoo Reds game and Fantasy Farm Amusement Park.
Democrats push a 152.8 million supplemental appropriation bill for a three day return from a five week recess while a Senate House conference panel approves tax relief with conditions. The measures center on Medicaid, welfare funds, and state revenue estimates as the fiscal year ends.
Washington AP reports the Postal Service plans to restrict envelope sizes effective April 15 1978. Envelopes outside specs will incur surcharges and smaller than specs will be banned. Otto Walker aged 30 died at Riverside Methodist Hospital after a May 18 stabbing at Southern Ohio Correctional Facility. Portmouth post of the Ohio Highway Patrol continues the investigation. Walker, serving four to 25 years from Cuyahoga County for attempted aggravated murder, was stabbed by an inmate who took a kitchen knife. Jerrel Howell, 32, of Mansfield, serving a life sentence for two counts of second-degree murder, was reported in satisfactory condition after being stabbed in a cell block area. investigation ongoing.
