Judge rules 1968 wiretap law unconstitutional

US District Court Judge Joseph S. Lord III ruled the Omnibus Crime Control and Safe Streets Act of 1968 unconstitutional on its face as it threatens privacy. The decision came in a motion by seven defendants linked to a $10 million sports and horse betting ring and involved a wiretap on Matthew F. Whitaker of Pottsville.

Library Dedication Open House for Portsmouth Public Library

Dedication of the Portsmouth Public Library building addition and remodeled facilities is planned Sunday afternoon starting at 2 p.m. The program includes City Councilman and Mayor Max Coryell, State Librarian Joseph Shubert of Columbus, and architect James Wittenmyer of Donaldson, Wittenmyer & Associates. Tank car explosion injures many in Dallas East Side

A Missouri Pacific tank car blew up Friday night in Dallas injuring at least 11 people and prompting evacuations of about 75 families from homes on the East Side. Fire officials said many injuries came from flying glass as flames spread.
