Author Erskine Dies at 71 in New York
New York author John Erskine died at his Park Avenue home at about 4:30 a.m. He was 71, survived by his wife Helen, a son Graham and a daughter married to playwright Russel Crouse. The novelist suffered a heart ailment for 18 months and had recently returned from Europe. His latest book Venus the Lovely Goddess appeared in 1949. The Private Life of Helen of Troy (1925) brought him fame.
