Alleged Rapist Will Rockwell Held After Attempted Assault
Madison township resident Will Rockwell is jailed on charges of attempted rape against Rachel I Shoemaker daughter of Solomon Shoemaker living near Ryan post office. The crime occurred midmonth as the victim returned from visiting Sylvester Kellar two miles away. The girl remained in danger for days, Rockwell fled but was captured by Constable Steagall and brought to town after appearing before Squire Giles who bound him over in 500 dollars.
