The Associated Press reports heavy thunderstorms and rain across the central Gulf coast states with rain fog and new snow in scattered areas. Floods forced many Mississippi families from homes on Christmas Eve as flash floods inundated communities.
Snow blanketed the northern half of the continent while heavy rain and ice affected the Deep South. Meridian Mississippi recorded 15 inches over Christmas, Vicksburg and Lau rel evacuated almost 150 homes, New Orleans reported 4 inches of rain, and Alabama Mississippi Louisiana faced a tornado watch. Northern Appalachians froze, New York fogged, and the upper Hudson River saw minor flooding as winds gusted near Rapid City.
Columbus and nearby cities partner with the state EPA to collect evergreen trees for mulch. Residents must remove metal before collection. About 50 cities joined last year. mulch will be distributed at three city locations on weekends of January 19 and January 26.
