American agriculture posted a strong 1966 with net farm income reaching 162 billion dollars, the highest since 1947, aided by rising food demand and modest stock declines. Farm prices rose about six percent, payments to growers hit a record, and production expanded as government controls eased.
Ohio State University extension economists forecast that most farmers will end 1967 with roughly the same net income as 1966 despite ongoing crop failures. They project national net farm income around 15.5 billion dollars with higher production costs, stronger livestock and crop prices, and lower beef per person due to fewer cattle marketed.
Resort near the Ohio River in Point Pleasant West Virginia is up for sale. The SBA owns the long closed Pleasant Point resort after bidding £475000 at auction. debts now exceed 1204600. The sale follows a court suit to void a transfer alleged to hinder the SBA’s loan recovery of about 500000.
